As good as almost anything Sexsmith has ever done. The first listen doesn't stick, but by the third you'll be waking up singing the songs. His cover of Charlie Pride's "Is Anybody Going to San Antone" is a great way to end the album. Sometimes his voice is stretched to its maximum lengths, and having seen him live a few times, it may be difficult to replicate some of these songs live, butAs good as almost anything Sexsmith has ever done. It’s no surprise to find that Sexsmith is doing little to reinvent himself on this album, the cheeky charm of “Saint Bernard” notwithstanding. Still, the comforting warmth and tenderness of the strongest tracks here makes Carousel One an album worth some spins.

Carousel One is Sexsmithery at its finest. [No. 119, p.59]

Lovely touches of deep soul back up the outstanding Nothing Feels The Same Anymore (reminiscent of Phoebe Snow singing Sam Cooke), and there’s a percussive and piano-driven backdrop throughout that makes this Sexsmith’s most rhythmic disc.
