It’s no surprise to find that Sexsmith is doing little to reinvent himself on this album, the cheeky charm of “Saint Bernard” notwithstanding. Still, the comforting warmth and tenderness of the strongest tracks here makes Carousel One an album worth some spins.

He seems to be making an effort to be more positive, though sometimes that comes across as cumbersome or strained.

As good as almost anything Sexsmith has ever done. The first listen doesn't stick, but by the third you'll be waking up singing the songs. HisAs good as almost anything Sexsmith has ever done. The first listen doesn't stick, but by the third you'll be waking up singing the songs. His cover of Charlie Pride's "Is Anybody Going to San Antone" is a great way to end the album. Sometimes his voice is stretched to its maximum lengths, and having seen him live a few times, it may be difficult to replicate some of these songs live, but a solid effort overall. Full Review »
