danbApr 15, 2007Bright Eyes has been spotty ever since Conor moved to NY. Lifted is still his high water mark, followed by Fevers & Mirrors. His recent work is just plain boring. I suppose he deserves some slack, but his entire appeal was his blistering lyrics, which have now become very Adult Contemporary, in a good way, of course, but a loss nonetheless. Cassadaga put me to sleep.

xxhopingtearsxxApr 29, 2007This album was dull, and most songs had the same rhythm over and over.

calebApr 13, 2007Drivel. Dull, self-important, arrogant, messianic drivel from an utterly banal writer with nothing new to say.

Paste MagazineAs ambitious as this album is, there's a surprising lack of anguish on display. [Apr 2007, p.54]

SpinOberst's countryish genre studies have deepened with a very adult loneliness. [Apr 2007, p.89]

The music doesn't always live up to the demands of the journey, but Oberst's trembling, vulnerable voice carries through to a rewarding conclusion.
