I've enjoyed Ndegeocello's last few albums, but this latest release sounds like prog-rock Stevie Wonder. There's a sameness to the beats, the lyrics are somewhat shallow odes to "forgiveness" and "love," and Ndegeocello's voice stays at the same tone through pretty much the entire album. Maybe something to listen to in the background, but I didn't find this record I've enjoyed Ndegeocello's last few albums, but this latest release sounds like prog-rock Stevie Wonder. Though Comfort Woman does not match the rebellion of past efforts, its overall joy is infectious. [Dec 2003, p.214]

It's all wonderfully sensual, only there's no passion or intensity. [Feb 2004, p.105]
