  • Summary: Following on the heels of one of 2005's best-reviewed world music discs is this second installment in the Congotronics series of electronica-esque African music, this time featuring the work of Konono No. 1 plus six additional (but similar) artists from Kinshasa.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 10 out of 13
  2. Negative: 0 out of 13
  1. More diverse than the series debut. [3 Mar 2006, p.102]
  2. This being anthropology, pretty much, a sampler is the ideal introduction.
  3. Congotronics 2 sticks closely to the sonics of the first volume, possibly because the bands do actually sound similar, or possibly because the bands have been recorded in similar fashion.
  4. While the sounds of these bands will certainly be familiar to fans of Konono, there is a remarkable amount of variety on the disc.
  5. This is exciting music, and Congotronics 2, with its good new bands, extrapolates fruitfully on Congotronics.
  6. 70
Initially seems more listener-friendly than Volume 1... [but] Congotronics remains radical listening. [Jan 2006, p.125]
  7. What's lacking this time around is the cohesiveness of the Konono No. 1 record.
