Guthrie folds delicate electronic treatments into his statuesque, joyous melodies. [Jul 2006, p.95]
  2. Depending on how much Robin Guthrie you want in your life, Continental is either redundant or another reason to love him.
  3. Guthrie's creative spark is as bright as ever.
  4. Really, there are few surprises here, but there is a crucial one, which is that Continental gradually reveals itself to be a solidly constructed and rather strong collection.
  5. Overall, Continental really does retread very well worn territory for Mr. Guthrie.
  6. Guthrie's signature-sound is so familiar that you can't help but regret the absence of Cocteau Twins singer Liz Fraser's breathy, spectral vocals.

His last two prominent releases have tread over this same material in more lasting and memorable ways. [Summer 2006, p.90]

It sounds lovely. And yet it is also crying out for Fraser's otherworldly quaver to give it a much-needed extra dimension. [Jul 2006, p.114]

Robin Guthrie's shimmering music takes you from one beautiful gem to another. I don't like New Age/Ambient music, but this CD is in Robin Guthrie's shimmering music takes you from one beautiful gem to another. I don't like New Age/Ambient music, but this CD is in another class of its own. It is the sound of the old Cocteau Twins master using his musical sensibilities in another bewitching way. My only complaint is that it is not at least 10 minutes longer. Full Review »
