Scott's slow, deep singing will not be heard much as he is forced to strain his voice while trying to keep up with the fast paced playing of old rock stars.

How disappointed I was by this album! The lush, hook-filled guitar stylings of Slash are nowhere to be found (ok, to be fair, they pop up for a few bars here and there), and this entire album feels like one long song. It's not bad, but it's rather innocuous; I had such high hopes...

The ballads are the best part of this album.

There is nothing particularly bad about this album, but nothing good either. The hooks are stale, the guitars are boring, and it just doesn't seem to flow

It pains me to say it but this is very disappointing when Slither is the best song on the album. Nothing groundbreaking here.

    A perpetual guilty pleasure. [Jun 2004, p.107]

Even at its sharpest, Contraband feels secondhand, and much of it is also hobbled by a disconnect between singer and band. [4 June 2004, p.79]

This is a troubling record. There are some stellar moments, but it's mostly just troubling. [Jul 2004, p.105]
