Albeit brief, with Crystal Nuns Cathedral, Pollard and co. have struck gold once again, delivering a hi-fi record that proves itself to be just as virtuosic and inventive as any indie rock album of recent memory.

Thirty-five albums in, incredibly, GBV are still scaling new heights. [Apr 2022, p.80]

As with every Guided by Voices album, fans will find some songs excellent and some unmemorable, but Crystal Nuns Cathedral's steady approach and considered construction make for more keepers than duds, and one of the band's stronger entries.

Apart from that, it's a "all killer - no filler" lp, and imho, their best since isolation drills. The first six songs and the last three are amazing, filled with melodic earworms, elegant arrangements (cello speaks itself), powerful chords, extra sturdy drums and bass backbone and epic lead guitar lines (courtesy of the unmistakeable Doug Gillard)...damn good mr.
