Saulnier's wild-man-on-a-rampage vocals are no longer hidden behind the unfettered sequel of his equally uncivilized guitar. [Jul 2012, p.109]

Aside from an introductory impersonation of Fleetwood Mac's 'Albatross' (on the title track), they continue where their 2010 debut left off.

This second album is exciting rather than essential, but if it's blown-out ears you want, PS I Love You oblige in style.

While the album's opening single, Sentimental Dishes, is far from the endgame--its jauntiness an awkward fit for the album's wider angst--there's a recognition in its pace, and the broadening ambition of the sound, that PS I Love You may be ready for more.

Death Dreams is another stellar album from another stellar band that has come out of one of Canada's most fertile music scenes-an essential and raw purchase for rock lovers everywhere.

As always, the main appeal lies in how honest and real it all feels.

There's an underrated vulnerability that's been exposed here, which makes for a valuable listen.

PS I Love You mire tentatively between jams and songcraft--there's some truly ingratiating melodies scattered throughout the first half, and Saulnier's lyrics have substance and weight, but too often they fail to coincide simultaneously.

Death Dreams is the perfect example of a "same but better" second outing giving fans more of what they love while presenting something new to consider for those who weren't sucked in the first time around

Death Dreams might be equally strong [as predecessor, Muster Station], but its inability to step things up can come off like a retreat in light of how much tuneful, wooly garage rock has come out since.

For all the ugliness, all the bitterness, all the fear and regret, Death Dreams can be devastatingly beautiful.

By album-ender "First Contact" the pair have accumulated enough momentum that they sound ready to bust out of Saulnier's self-conscious mind and take the rest of the world on, one graceful guitar burst at a time.

Death Dreams' loops of feedback, ghostly monologues and multipronged guitar attacks lash out, often in tandem, making the music feel big.

Death Deams almost faultlessly conveys the volatility and incomprehensibility of their particular genius. There isn't even one clunker in here, which is a lot to say in a year that's already seen another rock renaissance.

If "just trying to play with passion" is the ethos, then consider the band's sophomore album, Death Dreams, the perfection.

Would be great to remove the second Pitchfork review from this total - it's listed here twice!
