Starcrawler seem less like they want to lead you astray and more like they're acting out in hopes of getting their parents' attention, which isn't always good for these songs. But the music on Devour You is just raw and sweaty enough to conjure up some forgotten after-school special about falling in with the wrong crowd, and if that isn't hitting a bull's-eye for them, it's at least somewhere on the target.

Like a siren in dangerous waters, Arrow de Wilde channels vocals that move from licentiously tempting to all-out destructive chaos. The band manages to sound simultaneously tight and raw, combining a rowdy youthful energy with some talented riffing and a skillful rhythmic punch, as they move through punk rock, boogie blues, country chugs and classic rock with a bubble-bursting adolescent indie rock energy. RIYL: Amyl and the Sniffers, Hole, Dream Wife, Joan Jett/Runaways, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pixies. “Devour You” hints at better things to come. While there is nothing new or truly amazing here, the album is fun and it rocks like a mother! That’s enough for me. Recommended. Full Review »
