Apply megawatt tunes and career-best performances and you’ve got an album to top even 2002’s criminally neglected "Life On Other Planets."
  2. This is grown-up rock, with an adult swagger, from one of today's most gifted songwriting bands.
  3. Overall, it’s a brash, shiny, confident record, careering along on a second wind, or as one jaunty number puts it, “the return of inspiration.”
  4. 60
Thanks to Supergrass' long-standing dedication to the well-placed smirk, they never succumb to sappiness. [Apr 2008, p.100]
  5. This isn't a bad record, it's just a laboured and peculiarly joyless one, all those things that Supergrass were once the opposite of.
  6. 60
This muscular, everyman rock could have been produced at any time in the past 35 years, but has charm and character nevertheess. [Apr 2008, p.104]
  7. Now Diamond Hoo Ha, find Supergrass mired in a sort of stasis. We always knew the lads were limited to just three chords; with efforts that feel measured, contrived, and dawdling, they finally sound like it.

Did these critics even listen to the album? I'm hard pressed to imagine a single weak track on this entirely cohesive and entertaining album.

I agree with Greg. I'm not sure what many of the critics were listening to or what they know about the band. This is a great album and easily ranks amongst their best work. The only proviso is that it takes a few listens to sink in but your patience will be rewarded, believe me. If the world was fair, these guys would be global superstars. Expand

Great album, better than Road to Rouen which I liked too. One tip though - give it more than one listen!

Awesome, although there are many songs I do not like.

Agree with Leroy and Chris. Road to Rouen was innovating and inspired, this is just a step back. It's not badly done though, but Supergrass has done it better in the past. Expand

As a huge fan of the Grass it pains me to say this, but this is a very disappointing album. Seems the boys have overcompensated a little too much for the laidback nature of their last album. After the impressive experimental work on Road to Rouen , this just seems like a step backwards (ie slickly produced (possibly too slick) straight down the line rock songs). Supergrass have done this all before, and they've done it much better. Expand

I totally agree with Leroy B. I thought Road to Rouen was a lovely piece of work and was really looking forward to this. Unfortunately some of the tunes on here are less memorable some on their self titled third album. Disappointed. Change the direction back to Rouen ! Expand
