Mellow, abstract, and alluring, this worthwhile journey also offers Underworld fans a clear picture of Hyde's artistic contribution to the group.

The result is an album that’s likely too oblique for mass appeal, but that should be treasured both by anyone who has a taste for these kinds of self-contained, gorgeously appointed sonic miniatures and by Underworld fans who appreciate Hyde’s dreamier poetic side.

The electronic undercurrent that's hummed throughout Hyde's musical life to date is there on Edgeland, but only in the gentlest of forms. [May 2013, p.85]

Overall, this is much more than a chill-out album; there’s a level of depth here which showcases Hyde’s musical maturity and sensibility.

A joyous but intricate album, Edgeland is a perfectly paced outlet for Hyde’s cryptic urban snapshots.

The songs often sway back and forth; they are too structured and busy to be called ambient, but the music is often freeform, drifting in and out of its own meter.

This is sweetly strange and often emotional music--an album of disquieting tone poems and outlandish lullabies.

Surprisingly beautiful, this album is pastoral folk that reminds me most of a male version of Judee Sill, especially on the vocals. I thinkSurprisingly beautiful, this album is pastoral folk that reminds me most of a male version of Judee Sill, especially on the vocals. I think this is the kind of album that will age well.
