Fantastic Plastic might just be their finest effort. This is the music that stirs your loins and flies in your face like the sweet bird of youth come home to roost. Fingers crossed that this isn’t their Final Vinyl.

End Of The World could be Don't Fear The Reaper Mk II while a fad cover of NRBQ's I Want You Bad delivers Heart-racing teenage kicks. [Dec 2017, p.89]

The Groovies are indeed back, still majestic, supernatural and magnificently defiant, and as a result the rock‘n’roll world feels back on its axis.

Fantastic Plastic may not be the best Groovies album--that’s a debatable honor I’ll refrain from engaging in here, but let’s just say the first incarnation of the band holds a special place in this reviewer’s heart--but it’s still nothing short of a damn good slab of quality rock and roll.

Fans and obsessive will love this, but it may not qualify as a return journey for the rest of us. [No. 147, p.55]

Plastic Fantastic isn’t essential or especially relevant--though the aforementioned “What the Hell’s Goin’ On” does capture a certain familiar sense of aging-liberal bewilderment. It is, though, a utilitarian product, offering up 12 newly recorded songs that will allow the band to get back on the road.

The tasty guitar work is undercut by Wilson's heavy-handed lead vocals and the partners' cliche-ridden lyrics. [Nov 2017, p.26]
