GeoffreyRJan 12, 2009Great songs with very little to dislike. Power, melody, craft and swing combine to give this EP a memorable group of tracks. Not long enough to give a 10 score to, though.

RamirezJan 20, 2009Brilliant! the last instrumental track is a smack in your face and the guitar sound in the chorus of Inland Sea is beautiful, Trail of dead lays the expectations extremely high (again) for their forthcoming release.

MattZJan 29, 2009Its what everyone wanted from the 3rd album, a healthy mix between worlds apart and source codes and tags. If this is a preview of what to expect from the album trail of the dead is finally back on the right path after the disappointing So Divided.

Alternative Press'Bells of Creation (Machete Mix)' confirms they're not budging from their patented brans of symphonic rock....It's a sizzling cauldron of rock magic, grand in sound and scope. The other songs aren't quite as compelling. [Dec 2008, p.146]

Opener 'Bells of Creation (Machete Mix)' slowly builds from a single piano note to a cathartic wall of sound, a newfound streak of optimism underscoring Conrad Keely's lyricism. The celebratory spirit carries over to the title track, a jovial romp of baroque pop, and the more ornate 'Inland Sea,' balancing progressive movements and post-rock guitar.

A stopgap EP that simultaneously displays the best and worst of what ...Trail of Dead can do.
