Each of the tracks contain replay value, but the standouts besides the aforementioned are the blues-tinged “New Thangs,” “No Window Tints,” and the punchy funk-heavy snares and easy listening jazz keyboards on “Buddy & Sincere.”

The tape is a short, sweet, and potent mix of what Curren$y, Freddie Gibbs, and producer Alchemist do best. It is also an example of the good that can happen when seasoned vets link up and operate under the radar and outside of the major label system.

Before its release, Fetti had the potential to be one of the strongest hip-hop albums of the year due to the skilled people involved and it has no doubt fulfilled that promise.

While both rappers have met their match in terms of lyrical prowess and old-school ethos, the cavernous difference in their tones (Gibbs, deep and rough like a stormy sea; Curren$y, squeaky and smooth) keeps Fetti dynamic and wards of redundancy. Better still, however, are the moments when these rappers elevate the proceedings beyond street side cypher-style spitting.

A while ago, I saw a song by MadGibbs, Black Thought and Mos Def while scrolling on YouTube; I ignored it. Later I saw Palmolive, I decided to give it a listen and holy sh*t! That I didn't know about Bandana is nearly blasphemous. I enjoyed Piñata, I've no idea how many times I've listened to Deeper. Bandana did something different though, it got me interested in Freddie Gibbs as a lyricist. I decided to check out his solo work, that is when I saw Fetti, this little known collaboration with Curren$y and The Alchemist. I was very familiar with Alc, however, I'd be lying if I said I even knew a song by Curren$y, despite having heard about him a lot.

Suffice it to say this album managed to be a standout just several hours after my mind was blown by Bandana. The beats are soulful yet menacing. The brevity of every track means I'm left aching for more. Curren$y sounds like a seasoned vet, and his style works very well with Freddie's. Lyrically, it's more stream-of-consciousness than anything specifically. The production holds everything together and gosh is it good! I've heard several rap albums from 2018, from popular KOD to little known Mona Lisa (Apollo Brown and Joell Ortiz), and I've got to give the crown to Fetti. Typically when you're left unsatisfied, it's because something wasn't good enough, you're left wishing for more because what you got wasn't satisfactory. Fetti leaves me unsatisfied, and it's not for a lack of pure dopeness, it's the excess of it; the the neck-wrecking hip hop that this legendary trio decides should be served in less than 30 mins. 9.5/10

That’s a HUGE statement considering the catalog size of the artists involved.....I mean **** Curren$y currently is sitting on I think 75+ projects in his career..I think it safe to say; Gibbs, Curren$y and The Alchemist enjoy making dope music (Whether it be solo or together).. they do it frequently and often and BY GOLLY I LOVE IT ! Every song is GAS and there is just BARS ON BARS! What else you need!?!?!? #****sBrazySon #InstantClassic Full Review »
