Excellent songwriting and a surplus of surprising melodic ideas and lyrical wit can't be outshined by the band's deceptively loose approach.

Someday, other band names will disappear from Kiwi Jr.’s reviews as the quartet further develops its sound. Football Money is evidence they’ve clearly got the ability and the point of view to do exactly that. Until then, they’re working from a world-class playbook.

The band brings a vigorous energy to their quirky sentiments as they walk through their surroundings, instilling a comical bent at any opportunity. Even if they know that the farther they go, the better it is to stop for a second and just be in the moment.

Though Football Money is not without its moments of pessimism, at its core, it's a coming-of-age record about doing what you can with what you have--a bright-lights-big-city story scaled down to Canadian proportions.

One gets the impression that the band are performing at a private basement show surrounded by friends, enemies, drunks, and unsung heroes. With Football Money, Kiwi Jr. are sure to bring out some new friends at gigs in 2020 and far beyond.

Gaudet has such a witty way with one-liners, and the band is so effervescent in their execution, that it’s easy to overlook the elevated level of craft at work. Football Money clocks in at a lean 10 songs and 27 minutes, with nary a second wasted.

Kiwi jr’s debut album is an all around solid record, filled with so many bangers and anthemic songs. One of my all time favourites.

The lyrics are whimsical and the instrumentation is full of surprise twists that makes Kiwi Jr. one of the indie bands to watch for in the coming years. It is definitely the best album I've heard out of the January releases so far after the disappointments from big names like Selena Gomez and Halsey. Expand

Really nice album, all songs are catchy and the riffs are cool. Salary Man, Murder in the Cathedral, and Gimme More are standouts.

Kiwi Jr. succeeds in giving an indie rock sound that reminisces legendary bands of the same genre of the past three or four decades. However, I'd love them to be even more mature, addressing many more themes except for the coming-of-age turbulent life in the big city. They do have a distinct and a so fine sound, so I hope they will find the courage and the time to speak for a lot of different topics on their next albums. Great and hopeful start though. Expand

For some reason, I hear this album very repetitive and recycled, with not much focus and with creativity problems. Few songs are heard with attractiveness, but their development little by little reveals to be heavy, monotone and with no differentiator. The only thing that could keep the album on float is the fact that the music is easy to listen to and a good background ambient.
