Fans of TBR will undoubtedly love this record as much as the last. [Aug 2012, p.91]
  2. Freak Out! is an undeniable tour de force in hook-filled songwriting with a sharp spike of punk wit.

The lack of innovation is frustrating, since these guys nailed this formula long ago, but they mostly make up for the lack of newness by expending insane amounts of energy.

Freak Out!, for all its fun, is the sound of a serious rock band that could stand to take itself just a tad more seriously.

Teenage Bottlerocket offer some of their most solid tracks to date on their new LP, Freak Out. There's all the familiar punk stuff such as Maverick, Who Killed Sensei? and Headbanger but it also features some of their best written pop hooks such as Never Gonna Tell You and Go With The Flow. The only thing that may threaten to bog down this album is the similarity in tracks. If you're looking for a rock opera with string arrangements and five minute instrumental breakdowns then, by all means look elsewhere. But if you're prepared for a short, sweet serving of pop punk goodness pick up a copy of this. Expand
