  • Summary: This is the second album for the D.C.-based duo of Ian MacKaye (Fugazi) and Amy Farina (The Warmers).

  1. The record is absolutely at a pace with the band's great debut.
  2. The Evens' first disc was pointed and protesting, to be sure, but here, on Get Evens, the raw feeling of the record makes the message here more pointed, more specific, and more meaningful.
  3. Get Evens is the aural embodiment of the sublimated rage of their debut. Though the instrumentation is still spare, it's meatier and more aggressive.
  4. Get Evens is a grittier, more overtly political follow-up to their charming debut.

[It] sees [MacKaye] playing to his weaknesses. [Dec 2006, p.106]

If only more musicians were this poetically outspoken and musically creative. The most quiet, angry album I'll ever hear.

I expected more from this based on their first release together and their other projects. I found a lot of this to be pretty boring, unfortunately.
