  1. With Ghost Games, Apes have expanded their sound and pushed their brand of experimental art pop even further than before, making this one of their most exciting and enjoyable works to date.
  2. Apes aren’t about to crack that ‘til now ignorant mainstream with this fourth offering, but established acolytes and curious newcomers will find much indeed to be super-stoked about.
  3. It's hard to begrudge a band a transitional record when its in the midst of a substantial transition, and Apes wear it better than most.

The band retains the frenzied organ chug and indie-prog lurch of days past, and newish frontman Breck Brunson (who joined in 2006) is an impressively expressive yelper, but Ghost Games never skirts the border of sanity as much as it threatens to.
  5. Ghost Games is nothing so profound, but it certainly is something to bring out of the closet once a year or so.
  6. It’s a decent formula, and Ghost Games moves well for the first half or so, but Apes run it into the ground over rest of the album.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 3 out of 3
  2. Mixed: 0 out of 3
  3. Negative: 0 out of 3

This band has proven over and over that their song-writing skills, live performance, artistic integrity, and dedication to their craft is superior in every way. In a world where American Idol is the source of music for many Americans, this band deserves a home with 4 thrones. Ghost Games is simply fantastic! Expand

This is one of the most overlooked/ misunderstood bands of the decade. Ghost Games blows away 99% of the flacid indie poop that is out right now.
