  1. While everything is kept at a smoulder--the words unclear, the tempos slow--this new Om album is anything but boring.
  2. Uncut

The religious theme intimated by the title ensures that there is more going on with each track than mere mindless dirge. [Nov 2009, p.99]
  3. 70
No matter the new producer (Steve Albini), new label, or new percussionist (Emil Amos replacing Chris Hakius), Om's droning bass/drum take on heavy metal still resounds.
  4. God is Good shows a clear effort to steer their boat past the Nile, past Yemen, and into new territory.
  5. If more church music sounded like what Cisneros, Amos, and Albini achieve on God Is Good, then maybe those pews would be a little fuller, too.

Thebes is definitely one of the best starts to an album I've ever heard, it truly felt like a journey through music. Meditation is theThebes is definitely one of the best starts to an album I've ever heard, it truly felt like a journey through music. Meditation is the Practice of Death is just further testimony to how powerful a bass guitar can be. Cremation Ghat I & II, although, in my opinion, not as strong as the previous two songs, they are far from bad. A truly great album. Full Review »
