Beautiful and with a hint of danger, Heritage is approachable and voguish, a slice of neon noir as atmospheric as it is sleek, and a testament to Grellier’s formidable world-scoring talents.

Fortunately Grellier includes enough moments of excitement to keep Heritage less of a soundtrack album and more a French disco LP stripped of vocals.

It’s by no means perfect and it does feel slightly one-paced, but the layers of Heritage are undoubtedly worth unravelling.

Few of the remaining tracks, all instrumentals, stray far from the blueprint. [Oct 2013, p.99]

It continues to be true that instrumental synth of this caliber is a perfect backdrop, but today it gives the impression of digital trompe-l’œil, a backdrop devoid of foreground, a Real Hero as crash test dummy.

The 34-year-old owns this type of glossy, geometric synth-pop, and has for a while. He’s arguably perfected it. But he’s not making much of an attempt to advance, and sometimes standing your ground looks a lot like retreating.
