There are 21 tracks on jammed with booming, mellow Atlanta trap flare and some inconsistency between bangers and filler tracks with similar minimalist, psychedelic soundscapes.

Except for the previously released singles that pad the end of the record in keeping with industry norms, High Off Life is better-paced and sequenced than most of Future’s recent releases—the whole thing seems to glide by frictionlessly.

Pretty much the only complaint is that, similar to all of his releases since the infamous EVOL, it delivers and lives up to the hype, but it doesn't build and surpass his previous work. It remains to be seen whether he will ever create an album that is better than everything he's done so far, but this is still an extremely solid release.

With so many tracks, there's something for every mood and listener, a lengthy collection of familiar sounds punctuated with just enough choice cuts to keep it interesting.

While the commercial prospects for High Off Life remain high, Future seems, at least creatively, in a state of arrested development here. ... Still, when High Off Life succeeds, it does so extraordinarily.

Surprising title be damned, High Off Life can’t seem to help feeling like a rerun – albeit an enjoyable one.

Rap has been around for four decades now, and you might have hoped it would have evolved beyond this kind of backwards, deeply misogynist, abusively macho, greed- and status-obsessed posturing.

Although some tracks give you the feeling of being easily forgettable (I’m thinking about Harlem Shake and All for Bad), the album is filled with flexing tracks (like Too Comfortable, Tycoon, 100 Shooters, Solitaries and Trillionaire) but also with deep songs that address the listener to ponder about Future’s life and career (Up the River, Accepting My Flaws and Last Name), and you never think that this records has clear weaknesses Expand

I know his lyrics are not really the most profound ones in the actual rap game but listening to his new songs is always a pleasure. For this long album it feels like Future revealed himself in a confidential way. Lyrics are way better than in his late singles even though some songs look just like decerebrated bangers and fillers. The very beginning of the project surprised me in a mirific way and the sequence of these three songs ('Touch the Sky' - 'Solitaries' - 'Riding Strikers') is gold work. On the opposite I felt like the end of the album was quite botched while regrouping the late singles of the artist, predictable featurings and the reix of 'Life Is Good'. There's actually a dozen of other artists that collabored with Future on 'High Off Life' but the songs he carries all alone are for me by far the best.
DS2 was the the standard basis for what the artist can do at its peak. 'High Off Life' is not really far from it. If it was shorter and even more personal it would have been a classic just as DS2 is.
