Idiot Prayer is extraordinary, breathtakingly varied within its minimal format, and compelling throughout. [Dec 2020, p.84]

The result is a performance that exists in a strange hinterland, an album that’s unnervingly intimate yet flickers with the strange unreality of a dream. Idiot Prayer is as up-close and personal an encounter with Cave as there’s ever been. But a little mystery remains, always.

Intense and stripped back, with only his own art to fall back on, Cave cuts a truly formidable figure. This is an album you will return to again and again. [Dec 2020, p.85]

While this style works well, and is even more suited for some tracks, it diminishes the appeal of others.

Almost an hour an a half of Cave alone with a piano stumbling through some of his greatest works. At times you miss the magnificent work done in the studio with the Bad Seeds but at other times the songs have never been so sharp and piercing. "Idiot Prayer" is no place for an introduction to this great man but its a must have for existing fans. In the Covid19 era of human civilisation, we are in a state of isolation and waiting. Waiting for an end and return to the social way of life we took for granted. Nick Cave playing alone in an empty venue is incredibly fitting and its no surprise that 2 of the more spine tingling moments are the tracks "Are You the One That I've Been Waiting For" and "Waiting for You".
