Saloon's light touch makes a strong impact. Wonderful. [Aug 2003 p.104]
  2. Saloon might not attract the same short-term attention as some of their higher profile rock and pop peers in the UK, but this second album affirms that they have more to offer than many of their compatriots.
  3. Despite their lyrical nods toward the future, this self-produced diamond ought really to be nestling in your collection now.
  4. A bright, urgent, and charming album from an excellent young band.

A pleasant if vaguely unsatisfying collection of songs. [#61, p.106]
  6. England's Saloon combine the post punk rhythms of Stereolab with the poppiness of The Sundays, creating a melodically soothing murmur that, while derivative, is very enticing.
  7. Outburn

There are moments... that are very poignant and will rip your heart out, but many tracks fall a bit short of that mark and simply provide a pretty album of background music. [#23, p.99]
  8. The further away from the 'Lab and into a more organic sound the band goes, the more satisfying their music is becoming.
  9. No hooks, no lyrical drama, no surprises, nothing at all inside the pretty package.

Great CD, more immediate than the last one. Like a sweet female Grandaddy if such a thing is possible. Turn it up and it's great for Great CD, more immediate than the last one. Like a sweet female Grandaddy if such a thing is possible. Turn it up and it's great for going out, turn it low and it's a nice chill out record. Full Review »
