The various cameos (Sam Amidon, Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards among them) can make the Blind Boys seem like guests on their own LP. Still, the Boys' performances are first-rate.

On the five tracks sung solely by the Blind Boys, the record comes off as Vernon intended.... By contrast, the remaining six, each featuring a contemporary guest artists, are problematic. [Dec 2013, p.65]

Some of the guest vocalists are questionable--Shara Worden and Sam Amidon seem detached--but Vernon's delivery of Dylan's “Every Grain of Sand” has charm.

I’ll Find a Way won’t go down as a Blind Boys of Alabama classic, but at least 50% of it certainly brings the goods.

There are things that don't work here: there are stilted, wooden arrangements that mar "I'm Am Not Waiting Anymore" with Sam Amidon, and Vernon's duet with Carter on Bob Dylan's "Every Grain of Sand." Otherwise, I'll Find a Way is a fine, if uncharacteristically restrained, Blind Boys of Alabama recording.
