They’re too wilfully mad to emulate Tame Impala’s success, but if you’re after a freaking out, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s outrageous noise deserves attention.

It rates amongst the best three or four post-millennial psychedelic rock records. [Jan 2015, p.95]

Tame Impala/Pond and Unknown Mortal Orchestra are kindred spirits, but it's KG's hyperactive tendencies that distinguish them. [Jan 2015, p.74]

They’re at their most exciting when they drone, but not in the mid-paced, two-chord way of so much modern psychedelia.

I'm In Your Mind Fuzz is a peculiar delight; one which you should indulge in at least once, if only just to try it. It may just leave you wanting another taste.

In other hands, this would make for a frustrating listen, but there's a melodic warmth to mainman Stu Mackenzie's cosmic musings. [Jan 2015, p.120]

If they've managed to brainwash their listeners, they've done it by making a record that's hard to tune out.

The songs are solid and don’t mess around as much as the show. Though the non-stop, not exactly dancey indulgence groove ride of the whole first half, no pause until six songs in, might nag some.

As a whole, the album solidifies King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard as a truly ambitious band who balance classic songwriting with wild experimentation.

Their stall is pretty clearly set out then, yet... Mind Fuzz's most enduring quality is the overriding, Technicolor sense of fun that runs throughout. [Jan 2015, p.128]

Their longer songs at times dissolving into aimless jamming. The quieter ones, meanwhile, have a tendency to drift past prettily but inconsequentially.

The band's overall distaste for sound quality will probably put some listeners off, as much of the record sounds like it was recorded in real time on an old Tascam four-track in somebody's basement, but King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard possess enough pop acumen and oddball charm to lure even the most unsuspecting psych-rock fan downstairs for a taste.

It's by far King Gizzard's most hard hitting and heavily distorted album. Seriously good songwriting done on this album. There's not a dull moment on this. It's also my favorite project of theirs to date. Full Review »

A psychedelic concept album that has some absolutely mind-blowing, face-melting moments of intense and also some more relaxed jamming. AnA psychedelic concept album that has some absolutely mind-blowing, face-melting moments of intense and also some more relaxed jamming. An incredibly cohesive album, despite a slight mid-album slump in originality, in that some of the previous tracks feel somewhat rehashed and recycled until the Slow Jams come in to win the way.

I would recommend this album to fans of psychedelic rock, garage rock and surf rock everywhere.
