Inclusions is a thoughtful and thoroughly imaginative album about what a huge and complicated undertaking it is to truly relate to other human beings, what with all our mismatches in expectations and differences in background, experience and belief.

It's a surprising and rewarding journey, one best experienced with a good pair of headphones--where the intimacy is at its highest.

Inclusions has many of the Sollee hallmarks: imaginative arrangements, wicked humor, and, most importantly, loads and loads of good singin' and good playin'.

Given the classically trained cellist's indie leanings, it isn't surprising that Sollee would follow in the vein of acts like Sufjan Stevens, but it's a testament to his unique talents that Inclusions emerges as a distinctive, compelling record.

Landing well above a genre bedeviled by the twin albatrosses of solipsistic whining and overwrought political grandstanding, lyrically Sollee's songs feel well-worn yet sturdy. But they stand out chiefly because the array of melodic and textural effects available to a cellist is much different than your run-of-the-mill fingerpickin' crooner.
