The WireJul 18, 2016Cinematic, otherworldy landscapes and expert playing aside, there's something else to the album. Anderson flips expectations of where refrains or rhythms might go. [Jul 2016, p.46]

Jul 11, 2016Though never flaccid or soft, Into the Light possesses a lightness of touch, a deft empathy, a dreamlike aura.

MojoJul 11, 2016She has moved into a more hospitable climate, where multitracking of bass-strung guitar, lap and pedal steel, electric piano and percussion have resulted in a warmer palette, a golden late-sfternoon landscape of long desert shadows. [Aug 2016, p.97]

Jul 11, 2016When there are fewer tracks, Anderson contrasts foreground sharpness with distant background. “House of the Setting Sun” and “Chimes” present fatigued leads pushed along by hazy, distant clouds of tone. What the new climate hasn’t changed is Anderson’s persistent restlessness, wandering off the road to find unusual details. Into the Light heads into the desert, knowing it’s hardly a deserted place.
