  • Summary: This is the debut full-length for the Los Angeles-based experimental electronic artist.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 5 out of 6
  2. Negative: 0 out of 6
  1. I doubt the public at large is ready for a full-scale introduction to an artist who can mesh big bands and big beats, but those of us who are ready for such a union should be glad we have it all to ourselves, for now.
  2. Invention has very few peers, in my opinion. Though Schlammpeitzinger's Collected Simple Songs of My Temporary Past and Andrew Coleman's Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt come close, I'm firmly resigned that I'll not hear a more effortlessly charming album this year.
  3. Overall, the set works as a study in contrasts, with the ornate sampled arrangements always being in danger of disappearing under the sparking electronic beats or Daedelus’ added textures, whether they be synthesized sounds or computer printers.
  4. Uncut
If it all seems a bit contrived, the end result is harmonious and -- remarkably -- never kitsch. [Aug 2002, p.99]
  5. The Wire
Much of it is subtly melancholic, like a Broadway medley received in a dream. [#218, p.71]
  6. It quickly becomes apparent there is a lacking element in many of the tracks on the album. Memorable melodies. What remains are non-descript tracks that feature synthesizer melodies that go nowhere and cribbed samples from records.

I love this, its like expermental techno music with hip-hop elements mixed in. This is great music if I ever heard it.
