Most of the time, Baby is in prime form here — technical enough to earn his hip-hop cred, and stylistic enough to keep the uncommon kids from feeling like he’s common. When he’s at his best, it’s best to let him gobble you whole.

It captures the trials of his journey so far whilst celebrating his current success and the gross potential to do even more. The collaborations are authentic and humble, apt for the LP’s subtly intimate nature. Lil Baby has set the tone for his next phase.

For better or worse, at an overwhelming 23 tracks, It’s Only Me is more of a playlist experience than a concise and focused album, an endless stream with occasional stylistic flourishes but a mostly consistent energy.

If the trimmings were removed from ‘It’s Only Me’, it might rival his previous releases – instead it’s a few notches shy of greatness

Ultimately It's Only Me sticks to the formula that's taken Lil Baby to the top, but somehow fails to communicate the personality and creative fire that was hard to miss on earlier albums.

The nuts and bolts of the singsongy rhythms matter. Lil Baby is at his best when he’s using those tricks to switch between moods, but there’s just one on It’s Only Me, and it’s indifference: not in the too-cool-to-care kind of way, but in the way when words have no weight behind them.

The final product is an exercise in meh as he tries blending who he is with who he used to be, along with his more significant commercial responsibilities.

Was looking forward to this so much since My Turn in 2020 was phenomenal. This just felt like new iterations of the same songs on that album. Was looking forward to this so much since My Turn in 2020 was phenomenal. This just felt like new iterations of the same songs on that album. Nothing creative, nothing risk-taking, nothing outside of his comfort zone.
