Summary:The seventh full-length studio release for British indie rock band Foals features production from Dan Carey, John Hill, Miles James, and A. K. Paul.
With both these lyrical and sonic accomplishments, Foals have created a fine record with a very solidified sound that will be the soundtrack for the summer.
Foals manage to delight with invigorating innovation while simultaneously keeping their unique identity deeply engrained in a style that is as fresh as it is warm.
Nile Rodgers-esque guitars are a key feature throughout Life Is Yours. Aside from the more laid-back Flutter, the album’s danceable tempo shows no respite across its 40-minute duration. Its production is also extremely cohesive.
The biggest weakness of Life Is Yours is its lack of variety. Foals have always had a vast sonic palette, but on this album, the Oxford band limits itself to only a small portion. But what that album does, it does well. Each song is kinetic and has great grooves to get people moving.
If it doesn’t achieve the long-promised outcome of “filler-free” Foals, Life Is Yours unexpectedly thrives when it reintegrates the studio trickery that used to weigh down previous side Bs.

It's a perfect summer album, a breath of fresh air for the band. 2am, 2001, The sound , Wild green are some of the best tracks the band has ever made. People are saying the second half is lack cluster but I think it's even better than the first half. I understand some fans are not happy with the new direction but change is necessary and the band has to evolve.…Expand

Obviously not the best foals album, but definitely significant for their developement as a band and it's not bad at all. The most important thing is it's relevant and topical. The perfect album for this period of time. But there is also an issue... I don't think it's gonna age as well as their previous albums. Anyway, gongrats, Foals, love you.…Expand

They already released all their best stuff as singles. Everything else on this album feels like repetitive filler. About 4 tracks in, I foundThey already released all their best stuff as singles. Everything else on this album feels like repetitive filler. About 4 tracks in, I found myself longing for the depth and layers they executed so effortlessly with past hits like Spanish Sahara or Mountain at my Gates or the bombast and edginess of Albatross or Snake Oil or Inhaler. Sadly, you will find none of that on here. This album was marketed as a relaxing album for the summer. Can't deny it is relaxing, but perhaps so relaxing it will send you to sleep in your hammock. You can't fault them for not just playing it safe and trying something new, sure, but they have sacrificed too much of what made their previous albums great in the process. I hope this is simply just a temporary lapse of judgement by a band that rarely puts a foot wrong and they will bounce back with their signature sound. But that's just my opinion. Some people may really enjoy this. Perhaps if they had been able to weave in a few heavier tracks, this might have worked. I would absolutely love them to weave some of the hooks in this album into future albums. Best tracks for me are Wake Me Up, 2am, 2001. Crest of the Wave and Summer Sky are okay but never really deliver on their promise. This is probably the first album that ends on a low with the very poor and forgettable Wild Green. Even when the Foals mess up they don't really mess up which is testament to their quality. But make no mistake, for me, this is a huge fail. I doubt I will give this many repeat listens. I already found myself returning to previous albums.…Expand
