of course its pretty, its also deeply felt, beautifully crafted , and unerringly musical, one of the best albums of the year for sure

A gem of a record--somewhere between Patty Griffin, Edie Brickell and the innocence mission--quiet yet powerful. There are some dull moment in the middle of the disc, but Our Loud, the twangy Little Devil, and the three tracks that close the record are as gripping--lyrically, musically, vocally--as anything I've heard this year.

Not as immediate as her debut CD. But most of Long Island Shores is just as rewarding if you let the melodies seep in and pay attention to lyrics that show a more experienced songwriter.

Smith’s second album has all of the heartfelt lyrical content of her first, with its expressive and warm, velvety vocals and themes of love, loss, spirituality and sense of home. It includes beautifully uplifting melodies and gentle ballads. Her voice is soothing and yet tinged with a little regret and angst just when and where it needs to be. 1. Though some might find it on the meek and lightweight side, many more will likely revisit Long Island Shores again and again.
  2. With her expressively breathy vocals and uplifting melodies, Mindy Smith expresses both the romantic and spiritual dimensions of rapture.

Once again, the former seminary student brings unforced spirituality into lean songs about love, home, and heartbreak. [13 Oct 2006, p.131]
