  1. While there's undoubtedly a wealth of ideas to be found here, listenability is the real wildcard.
  2. The album's laid-back, off-the-cuff experiments are just enjoyable instead of brilliant, but they nevertheless display the undeniable creative chemistry that the trio shares.

A pleasant if somewhat plain folk-rock record, less adventurous than either Wilco's or O'Rourke's own recent outings. [#227, p.68]
  4. Overall, Loose Fur is kinda interesting, especially as a historical document, but it's not much more than that.
  5. Sounds a bit like a stripped-down version of Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

This is the type of thing that convinces you that these reviews, at least the ones by the 'professionals', can't be taken This is the type of thing that convinces you that these reviews, at least the ones by the 'professionals', can't be taken seriously. They are too wrapped up in trying to prove how hip they are to be able to discern talent or the lack thereof. They equate obscure with deserving of merit, failing to realize a good deal of obscure music is obscure for a reason. I mean, listen to this thing. It's sophomoric at best, self-infatuated meaningless and meandering noodling. And this gets scores in the 70's???!! Truly awful. Full Review »
