I was disappointed in this when it came out, but listening again recently I was surprised at how good it is.

If you listen to this album not expecting "I am Shelby Lynne" II, you're sure to find it amazing. Shelby's voice and style alone are enough to make any album worth it. And if the songs are good too, that's just the icing on a delicious cake.

It's not the wonderfully soulful music of "I Am Shelby Lynne," but it is a good slick pop album. It's just disappointing knowing how much better Shelby can be.

  1. The edges have all been sawed off of Lynne's sound by producer and co-songwriter Glen Ballard, and she appears as a positively wimpy adult.

Things sometimes tip too far into conventional rock cliché -- "I Can't Wait" is too obvious a power ballad -- but for the most part, this is another display of Lynne's surprisingly agile range.
  3. Seems slickly over-produced and a little forced.
