Lyrically, Terminator-like narratives such as Cyber God do underwhelm. Their music's intensity, however, holds everything aloft. [Mar 2017, p.112]

Diehard fans of the Brazilian band who rekindled their interest in the band with the return of Roots producer Ross Robinson will find Machine Messiah lacklustre, possibly even forgettable, when held up to Sepultura's better past work.

There are very few bands that can truly hold a match to the variety of sound and ability that has been brandish upon Sepultura records overThere are very few bands that can truly hold a match to the variety of sound and ability that has been brandish upon Sepultura records over the past 30 years. I will admit that I am a Sepultura die-hard and I have been fairly disappointed with the lasting value of some of the Green-era Sepultura records; This record is just one of the best the band has ever offered. Machine Messiah is a perfect example of why I have always been a staunch advocate for the modern era of Sepultura records. Machine Messiah is progressive groove-thrash at its finest. The technical abilities of Andreas Kisser, Derrick Leon Green, and, the one and only, Eloy Casagrande, give this album blistering speed and heaviness with the complexity of bands like Rush and King Crimson. I will say that the album is not without its flaws; The opening track, though good, does leave the listener in a dazed state when the tempo and volume pick up dramatically; perhaps they meant for the transition between tracks one and two to jarring but who knows. This album has something for everyone and will not disappoint. Full Review »
