Sep 3, 2020From the driving blues line in “The Cowrie Waltz,” the lush soundscapes heard on “Ancestral Duckets” and “Bop for Aneho,” and the celestial soul claps that emanate from “Zane, The Scribe,” Georgia Anne Muldrow, once again, engenders her own Afrofuturistic realm, one that is heard, seen, and felt in the here and now.

Aug 28, 2020As crucial as any of Muldrow's better-known creations, this proves that Jyoti is more than a side project.
-
Aug 28, 2020Mama, You Can Bet! highlights Muldrow's encyclopedic knowledge of jazz, hip-hop, funk, R&B and soul, making for a stylistically eclectic album. The 15-song sequence, however, is eminently cohesive, each track building on or seemingly responding to the previous one.

UncutAug 28, 2020It's as stylistically free as any GAM record - and as exquisite. [Oct 2020, p.32]
-
MojoAug 28, 2020She sounds like a full band as vamping pianos, rubbery double basses, freeform vibes and skittering beats collide. [Sep 2020, p.85]
-
The WireNov 6, 2020Thanks to Muldrow, these compositions now bump and swing to the blues of the day. [Sep 2020, p.47]

Sep 8, 2020There's so much to like here, as a current document that faces forward while reflecting the past. My main nitpick would be the echo and trailing effects on the vocals, making the words linger with an extended dissolve. It's especially noticeable on headphones and makes for an odd choice on an album that otherwise sounds gorgeous. Still, even this perceived flaw alludes to an ethereal quality.
