Taylor's worst album by a long shot. lyrically it's nothing special for her standards and the additional songs go against the album concept but the biggest disappointment is the production, the songs sound extremely unpolished.

Midnights is as confused as it is disjointed, it wants to be intimate and fierce but at no point does it feel like either. Instead this album feels bloated and like outtakes from previous albums. The production of the album oscillates between sounding over-done and completely under-done. The album reaches its very short peaks with tracks like "You're on Your own Kid" and "Mastermind" the latter whose chorus is the strongest on the album, and the former feels more epic than its worth. This album is Taylor's first "post-pandemic" album and the production is much larger than her previous two albums Folklore and Evermore, but features none of the charm or lyrical wit of the previous two. Instead this album feels like a demo version of Reputation and Lover, while lacking any of the  merits those albums had. Expand

Another mediocre album from TayTay. Too bad, was excited for a fresh sound but it's more of the same quiet indie-ish sounds. I guess Jack Antonoff is the reason? Oh well, fingers crossed the next one is interesting.

Instrumentally there is nothing to discuss other than a basic drum machine, vocally there isn't many hooks or melodies to really draw you in. It's a very lyrically focused album, but unless you're already a Taylor Swift fan there isn't much to keep you around to really listen to those lyrics.

Taylor just proved how basic she is. If you listen to her discography, you’ll never know which album the song is from because everything sounds exactly the same, never changes. And the fact that she insists on bringing up one hundred different versions of the same song is really annoying.

To me it’s just not that good, her worst and weakest album to date. The melodies go absolutely nowhere, vocal melodies are so boring and the production is plain, there’s no vocal range, Taylor stays in the same register the entire time, lyrics are not so great either, throwing in a few big words doesnt necessarily make a song good, feels like her tackiest juvenile lyrics yet. It doesnt sound like a taylor swift album. Snow On The Beach is decent and anti hero is a grower but thats it. Not one good hook or amazing bridge something she is very well known for. The songs just sort drag on, like you are waiting for something to happen and it just doesnt. She used Lana as a selling point and she barley sung on the song apart from one line. Its like jack told her 'hey go read some monotone poetry' and write lyrics like that and I’ll do some boring synth work over the rest. It’s basically sounds like a bad jack antonoff album to me, not a Taylor swift one. I think she needs to stop working with him, hes boring and doesn’t challenge her and most of his stuff all sounds the same. I don’t know how swift can go from writing songs like Dear John on her own at 19 to whatever this mess is, like I expected hard hitting lyrics the way she describe this album but to me it sounds like something a semi decent 19yr old pop singer today would write. If any other artist released this I wouldn’t have listened to it, and if any other artist released this I doubt they’d be getting the same hype. It feels like nothing but favouritism to me at this point, anything she does gets praised no matter if its good or bad, anyone who dares gives her constructive criticism is deemed a hater and that’s the problem critics are afraid of getting blacklisted or attacked by her or her fans and when you have an entire fandom that are yes people there is zero room for growth. Overall an underwhelming album that isn’t that enjoyable to listen to and something that is forgettable, I’ve listened to it over and over the past day and not one lyric or melody has stuck or played in my head, something that always happens with a swift album and this is coming from a swiftie since 2007. The lyrics sound like she put her discography, some words she thought sounded nice, profanity, and some pop culture references into EI and this is what popped out. It's cringy and incoherent and she uses too many vocal effects. It sounds like she both hates herself and is obsessed with herself and revenge and desperately wants you to think she is a badass. There are many cringy lyrics such as "Karma is a cat purring in my lap" and "Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby and I'm a monster on the hill." One would hope these were cheeky songs, except she sounds like she is trying to be sensual. I'm not a Taylor-hater by nature either. I was a fan for the majority of her career but this is all the worst elements of her music put together and amplified. Listening to this album truly felt like she was trying to see if she could put out terrible music and still dominate the charts and have critical acclaim due to her name-powet. It is a cringy and disappointing offering.

Nothing new, same sound, mid lyrics. She needs to stop making music for a few years to understand which direction to go since 2019 she has released mediocre material and impulsively dropped albums does not help the artist's creativity even if it satisfies your fan base which in this particular case is mainly a white demography.

Greatly disappointing. You'll only love this album if you are a Taylor swift stan, what gets 100 from critics isn't the music in this album but the person who made the music and the online craze surrounding her. If this album was released by another artists, both scores would've been different. The music is mid, you're too busy finding connecting between the songs and Swifts life to see it.

It genuinely sounds like a bunch of Lover and Folklore rejects put together just because Taylor hadn't put out an album in an entire year. The vocals on the deluxe 7 tracks are still fine but on the original album, they are just bad and rotten. As for lyrics, I had, with all my heart, soul, mind, believed that Taylor is THAT girl in songwriting, like just amazing in it, but some lyrics like:
"Karma is a cat purring on my lap cause it likes me"
"Somedays I feel like everybody's a sweet baby"
    "Spider Boy, King of thieves'
It's such abysmal writing, I am honestly horrified.

Lavender Haze and Snow On The Beach sound rather fine, but other than that the whole album is like a greatly anticipated movie's bad trailer only, it's like the Junglebook with the graphics of the Junglepeople. Every song seems to build on and on and on, but it never stops building to reach that climax. It can be a beautiful album, she had the chance, but except for the hype that Taylor Swift brings, I really don't think is a critical or commercial success, it's, to be straightforward, plain boring.

Every song, except for what could be a Billie Elish cover, falls flat and tired. She needs some people that can say No to her in the studio, I feel all these song were bad ideas thar weren't rejected.

Even thought the whole world and even some critics tried to sell us this as a dark project is not?, the tiktok formula is very obvious in every song, it’s annoying to see how big artists just make music for charts and not for the sake of music, 13 midnights? More like 13 rejects.

What's funny is whoever's giving this album good reviews has obviously lost sense, like how can one go from the brilliance in Folklore to whatever color coded, disney produced, 16 year old, white girl lyrics?

'Karma is a at purring in my lap, cause it likes me.' What? What? What the f-? The entire album is a mix of lover, reputation, and evermore rejects, and it sounds absolutely

Uninspired tracks with sloppy writing. Only few of the songs actually sticks, the rest feels like fillers with the same cottage core production that only her hardcore supporters pretend to like. 2/10

I really enjoyed Red, Folklore, and Evermore and going into this optimistically, I was extremely disappointed. A lot of the lyrics and tones of voice were corny and overly sophisticated for no reason. Pretty boring album, the only reason I’m not putting a zero is because Labyrinth was good and Lavender Haze was tolerable.

Not for me. I think at this point there’s a lot of regression and little growth. There’s simply not enough to make it shine in typical Taylor fashion.

Forgettable, far mores misses than hits and when songs were good they sounded exactly the same as previous Taylor.

Barebones production, bland vocals with melodies that build up to nowhere made this one of the most boring listens this year. Lyrically, there are some strong parts, but in general is a huge downgrade from Folklore, with corny cringey lyrics that remind you of 40-year-old white mom's instagram captions.

Terrible disaster, when will paylor swift stop her money offensive? She's lost her aura, it's bloated and boring **** but somehow it's really suitable for midnight hypnosis,Swifts need to understand that idol strength and music level are irrelevant......

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Liking 1 song out of 13 left me giving a 1 out of 10. Don't wanna hurt swifties' feelings, but can't lie that I enjoyed any other songs other than Anti hero. The album has some awfully cringy lyrics, silly vocal effects and weak production. It didn't come together as well as I thought it would. Expand

There are few catchy tunes but does not really add value to the TS discography. So sad this is the most popular album. Evermore was better in every way. Even Lover (album) was better. Cruel Summer and Lover (song) blows all the songs from Midnights out of the water. A truly disappointing album.

This was an extremely boring album. And the fact that she's put out multiple versions of the album to up her sales makes it all feel so shallow. It's like the quality of her work isn't a priority, as long as she breaks whatever record she's going for.

Taylor's 10th album turns out to be one of the most mediocre works she's put out, on par with Lover. It honestly feels like a collection of rejects from her previous albums, and the subject of the lyrics of most of the tracks seems to be things we already heard from her. It seemed with Folklore and Evermore than she was starting to expand her horizons as an artist, but this is a HUGE stepTaylor's 10th album turns out to be one of the most mediocre works she's put out, on par with Lover. This album was very boring. Her voice is bland, and the overall vocals put me to sleep. The only slightly good song is mastermind, but other than that, it sucked. I don’t know why anyone would listen to this album.

Taylor managed to outdo himself by releasing an album worse than the lover. at least in lover we have highs and lows, (more lows than highs) this one is just low, so monotonous & so basic that it could be a Selena Gómez album. Its time to stop thinking jack antonoff is a good producer, hes been making the same song for years

While her 10th album doesn’t make instant classic status like 1989, and Evermore and Folklore remain her masterpieces, it is still an understated, beguiling look into the mind of one of the biggest pop stars of our age.
