  1. Put simply, Mount Moriah is a compelling debut full of candidness, thoughtfully well crafted and relatable lyrics, beautiful vocals with the ability to mesmerizing, and dare I say it, already an aura and element of timelessness destined to surround it.

Dominated by shuffling drums, slow southern rock guitar licks, and pedal steel, the music on Mount Moriah is unobtrusive and reserved--at times almost too much so--but there are some fine flourishes in these songs, which feature members of Megafaun, St. Vincent, and Bowerbirds

With its stormy guitars, that song is fraught with enough turmoil for McEntire's punk band Bellafea, but mostly, Mount Moriah takes a more traditional interpretation of Americana, setting McEntire's sweetly quavering voice against finger-picked guitars, churchy organs.

This isn't a record that will immediately grab your attention, and it may even be overly dreamy in spots. Those moments are fleeting, though, and these songs are too well-written and too heartfelt in their execution to be ignored.

When they keep their songs focused and kick up the tempo a bit, Mount Moriah is far more compelling.

Mount Moriah is ultimately a refreshing debut whose flaws can easily be excused as growing pains.
