It is full of indecipherable songs, swaddling the brutal clarity of the techno DJ-producer duo’s early singles in something unpredictable, off-kilter. Choral vocals make you feel everything from terrified to strangely soothed.

There are only nine tracks in all, with pieces such as the mesmerising ‘Boids’ and the blissful ‘Glider’ less focused on the floor. It ensures you never feel like the same tricks are being repeated, and the power of those mellifluous voices never wanes. [Jun 2018, p.114]

It feels like a fitting release for the duo who’ve been going for so long. The search for new ideas is always on, and with this one, they’ve found a winner that offers something a bit different, while not alienating.

An intriguing and powerful release, Simian Mobile Disco prove with Murmurations that they are still as vital as ever.

Murmurations is a standout moment for Deep Throat Choir, while in the Simian Mobile Disco canon it sits as an interesting and pleasant experience but, ultimately, a sideline in their discography.

There’s not much variation between the melodies of ‘Defender’ and ‘V Formation’--and the closing title track feels like a bit of an anticlimax--but the album’s nine tracks are mostly enveloping soundscapes. There’s a distinct journey through Murmurations, and you might get lost--in a good way--in the middle.

It’s a creative, energised exploration of the power of both the human voice and electronic music to move us.

Murmurations is as rewarding for the listener as it must've been for the artists.

Murmurations represents a breakthrough. It’s thrilling to imagine where Simian Mobile Disco might go next; here’s hoping they get the chance.

The symbiosis of electronic sound and choral singing gave its original result - it seems as if you came to some witches' coven, where the extraordinary beauty of the maidens to the rhythms of the tambourines whirls in violent dances, jumps over the fire and sings some magical mantras. Under the pressure of such energy, you also want to surrender to the dance and immerse yourself in sound vibrations.
