The way Nisennenmondai just locks into their particular pocket and keeps forging forward as Sherwood strafes the tracks with every bit of echo and reverb he can muster makes for some of the most obviously fun material without ever feeling like anything but Nisennenmondai.

Often it’s Himeno’s drums alone which provide any sense of conventional structure, adding hypnotic rhythms to the cicada chatter and guitar feedback of #2 before Zaikawa’s heartbeat-like bassline belatedly joins in.

Nisennenmondai will fill your head with strange, billowing thoughts as their compositions sprint towards infinity. Approached in the correct spirit--principally an understanding that this is music that will ask questions rather than provide answers--their conjurings are irresistible.

However they adapt, it's always on their own terms, and #N/A is some of their most radical music yet.

There may be no artist more committed to the line as a creative medium than Nisennenmondai; projected through Sherwood's spacetime-distorting lens, their vision of infinity becomes all the more engrossing.

These short tracks hint at the more compact and engaging album #N/A could've been. But on "#2," the collaborators show they can also pull off long-form.

Sherwood's two live mixes almost capture the intensity of their stage show. [May 2016, p.78]

It's an unnerving listen that demands a certain amount of masochism, but you've definitely never heard another band like Nissenenmondai.

On #N/A the skill of the trio (plus one) is more than evident, it’s just a shame they didn’t try and inject just a little more variety into the mix as well.

The album in it’s conventional format may be too limiting for Nisennenmondai here and therefore, this is not their greatest advert.
