Mr. Aldean’s shtick is effective--his sturdy voice, paired with production that has more in common with sensual 1980s hard rock than modern country, makes for uncommonly brawny country music.

This casual, almost steely, assurance is appealing and even if the record goes on far too long at 15 tracks (18 in editions exclusive to certain retailers), this focus coalesces Old Boots, New Dirt, turning it into one of his best records.

Jason Aldean's Old Boots, New Dirt, the singer's sixth studio album is a mixture of the party songs he has become known for--but also shows a little bit more of an emotional and sensual side than listeners might be accustomed to.

Old Boots New Dirt is one of those albums you can listen to from cover to cover, from tracks one through fifteen because each and every trackOld Boots New Dirt is one of those albums you can listen to from cover to cover, from tracks one through fifteen because each and every track is good. It's not like Aldean put a few hit songs on here and filled the rest of the album with filler space, each and every individual song on this album is good. At the time Aldean was turning a new leaf in his life and seeing a new person and she must have been really inspirational for him. These songs are very rock-country, very power filled, some of them, and some of them are emotional and even operatic, like the song "Too Fast" on here. Songs like that demonstrate Aldean's vocal range (which is better recorded than live) and how he can sound like either a rock or an opera singer but always strong and powerful and backed by strong drum sounds. There is not a boring song on this album and it is one of the few country albums (I'm a huge fan of the genre and have been for years) that I can listen to from cover to cover. Full Review »
