Onion mostly attempts to wring earnest feeling from platitudes.

With his trilling string work and fierce vocals, Cody takes center stage on the newest Shannon and the Clams album with instant favoritesWith his trilling string work and fierce vocals, Cody takes center stage on the newest Shannon and the Clams album with instant favorites "Strange Wind", "I Leave Again" and "The Boy", while Shannon explores her emotive range on the stirring tracks "Did You Love Me", "If You Could Know" and "Don't Close Your Eyes". Add the shredding finger-work of Keyboardist Will and the driving rhythm of drummer Nate and you've got a fun, energetic new album with addicting hooks and gripping lyrics. Though a bit less eccentric than past albums, Onion delivers the same distinctive sound and rebellious power for which the Clams are renown. I think the difference between this and past Clams releases (like my personal favorites Gone by the Dawn and Sleep Talk) comes down to taste. It's all delicious, some of us just prefer burritos to pizza. Full Review »
