  • Summary: The quirky Welsh quintet's sixth album was produced by Mario Caldato Jr. (Beastie Boys).

It is every bit the equal of recent pop classics like the Flaming Lips' The Soft Bulletin, Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, or The Shins' Oh, Inverted World.
  2. Bugger if the Furries haven't gone and exceeded their own expectations with this, a total stonker of a new record that cannot fail to excite and delight on, oh, so many levels.
  3. Phantom Power sees the down-to-earth Welsh band moving away from genre-hopping and rough juxtapositions, and beginning to blend their influences into an evenly spread melange that simply sounds like a highly evolved pop band.

Some may consider the Super Furries to be treading water on Phantom Power because it feels comfortable and familiar. But when something sounds this good and touches this many bases, I'll take a few more like this one.
  5. They've made a fine pop record without compromising their trademark quirkiness.... The band's best work to date. [Aug 2003, p.114]
  6. Though not quite as spectacular as Rings Around the World, Phantom Power is still one of the most refreshingly original and fun releases of the summer.
  7. Densely composed yet effortlessly melodic.

Just barely below there last Cd, which pretty much means that it is really, really good. The Undefeated is one of the greatest songs ever.

The fact that this album has no albums in the yellow is a testament to its brilliance. This is still the best SFA album to date and it is hard to imagine them topping this absolute gem and best album of 2003. Expand

Will super furyy animals ever make a bad album. They just seem to keep on giver it all and delivering great results. This is more accesable than their earlier work. It's also some of their best. Expand

Although not even close in scope or ass-beating originality as "Rings Around the World," "Phantom Power" is still classic furries and will undoibtedly pull more fans into their clutches, albeit unwillingly and, possibly, brutally. Expand

The latest from the Furries is very aptly titled: the power within this album is very hard to see, if it exists at all. I should not be complaining though, it is still miles ahead of most everything cluttering up the pop charts, but, and I do hate to say this, Phantom Power is a, well, boring. Rings Around the World was far more adventurous and I wish they would have grown in that direction. Expand
