I went through the 70s, and never really got why anybody put Zepplin in the pantheon of great rock bands. I agree they have some incredible musicians, and Plant is a passable vocalist. So I decided to listen to this album, and really try to like it. I just can't. Sorry. I think they still may be the most overrated rock band ever.

You can file the seven bonus alternative mixes under "interesting" rather than "essential," but the sheer magnificence of the rest remains undiminished. [Apr 2015, p.108]

The album proper finds an omnipotent Led Zep still within hailing distance of the top of their game.

Released 40 years to the day since its initial release, this deluxe edition confirms what critics have long said about this, yes, “summative” recording: this is an album that gives a lot, and then keeps on giving.
