Punk Drunk and Trembling is an EP that displays the best of their later sound and leaves you wanting more.

Where Boy King explored the toxic expectations of modern masculinity, Punk Drunk... runs almost like a case study; a romantic encounter in microcosm.

The queasy electronic work on Punk Drunk and Trembling, though, feels fresh, like the breaking of new ground, and you can say the same for ‘Maze’, with Tom Fleming’s baritone floating over an undulating bed of synths.

The two formerly bonus tracks sound like just that: addenda, inessential and fairly unenlightening. ... The best thing about Punk Drunk & Trembling is Thorpe’s falsetto vocals, which shower the song with drama, torment and soul. His voice makes you believe in his words even as you marvel at his powers.

These three songs embody the different environs that Wild Beasts inhabited over their 12 years together, from the shoulder loosening liberation of the title track that recalls the energy of cool tone danceables like "Bed of Nails" and "A Simple Beautiful Truth," to the slow emotive current of "Maze" which sees them in the elongated wavelength of "End Comes Too Soon" and "Dreamliner."
