  1. The resulting album is one that is deceptively simple, a send-up to the aggressive cultural awareness of old-school rap on the surface, filtered through a hundred different post-apocalyptic scenarios, musical and lyrical.

There's no doubt--R.A.P. Music is the best Southern Rap album since Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.

Mike and El-P may not have made a lot of sense on paper, but it's clear they have great chemistry and they have pushed each other to make some of the year's best music.

Even putting aside his berserk, imagination-defying technical skill--he stays deep enough in the pocket to get lost there--there's not a wasted breath on R.A.P. Music.

While this record is sure to please longtime fans, it also works as a compelling introduction.

R.A.P. Music, a few slightly faulty hooks aside, is a definitive statement from Mike and a legacy changer for El-P.

It's his finest work yet, which is saying something, and the kind of record that will resonate for years not just because it's reveres history, but because it understands it and isn't afraid to demand answers from it.

It's easily one of the best albums of the year so far, and has the sound and feel of a classic.

Not only is it essential listening for hip-hop in 2012, but also one of the few records that pushes musical and cultural boundaries in general.

THIS DESTROYS MAINSTREAM HIP HOP !!!!!!!!!!!! An amazing album! full of raw energy and politically charged lyrics. My fav track is def regan it's def the best song of 2012 so far. Actually this and el-p''s cancer for cure are the two best albums out right now,as far as I know. Buy it because if you don't you're missing out on great new music, and that's somethong you never want to do, because this is your time and era and you have to live in it. Full Review »

Definately my favorite album of the year along with Kendrick Lamar's 'good kid m.A.A.d city'. 'Reagan' is without a doubt the best track on the album and possibly the best song of the year. Far superior to mainstream hip hop. Full Review »

I've heard of Killer Mike before this album, but had never listened to him knowingly...from that POV this album is remarkable. It feels nostalgic and fresh at the same time. Heavy beats, sharp lyrics with gigantic flow, and an admirable conscience make this album the must hear of year for me so far in 2012. Full Review »
