Rebel Heart is the best of both Madonna worlds, the sexual persona and the true romantic at heart. A true return to form for Madonna. Long live the Queen of pop.

If this album hadn't been leaked, everybody would be loving, admiring and copying it. I think it's one of her bests - and the best since 2005 Confessions-. I don't understand why they're underrating it. Party songs and personal lyrics, auto-referential and of course, a reality of her 56-year-old persona.

It's definitively better than MDNA, but still it got too much auto-tune, especially on "Auto--Tune Baby" (the only song from this album that I don't like...).

Madonna is what, 56 years old? And she's still killin' it. I don't listen to Madonna really, but this album is a great 'club' and 'dance' album with the album's title reinforcing the theme and music. Nas and Minaj's appearances complete the album.

At first listen, I could say Madonna, THE Madonna we were all waiting for was back in the game. Hard Candy released in 2008 was risky and new but incomplete and MDNA released in 2012 was definitely fun but it lacked of that little thing that makes us think : " Yes , this is the Queen".
Today, Madonna has released her 13th album to date and it is a pleasure, a delightful pleasure to listen

The Rebel side of this album is simply pure Madonna, as S.E.X, **** I'm Madonna or Holy Water. She is building this huge part of the album on the theme she masters so well. The Heart side of this album is to me the best. Living For Love, Hold Tight, Joan of Arc are some among masterpieces that album counts. Special mention to Ghosttown which is probably the best pop ballad track we have heard in years from a major artist.

If you were thinking Madonna's over, well you should carve every word before you let it fall, because the Queen is reigning and she has not "been slain"

What I love about Madonna is that she is musically ambitious. Not only she made some of the greatest pop classics of all time, but she has also made great pop records with her bold fashion choices to promote them. She is a Queen of Pop and an icon for that reason. This is what I missed about Madonna as well. Not only she made some of the greatest pop classics of all time, but she has also made great pop records with her bold fashion choices to promote them. She is a Queen of Pop and an icon for that reason. This is what I missed about Madonna as well. I am a bit disappointed that she will never top off her Confessions on a Dancefloor era back in 2005, where she has topped herself as a visual music artist. And yes, I said that because Confessions on a Dancefloor is my favorite Madonna album of all-time. However, I am glad Madonna made some new music and I appreciate that.

Rebel Heart feels more like a journal kind of album where each song is more of what Madonna has in mind. So basically, I think this is how simple Madonna can get without being too plain and I actually like that. I still miss the “concept album” kind of records Madonna used to make like Ray of Light and Confessions on a Dancefloor but I appreciate Rebel Heart for its simplicity with the Madonna twist.

Lyrical wise, Rebel Heart is what her previous record MDNA should have been. I love how Madonna gets a bit more personal in this record. I can totally tell that Madonna wrote those songs, especially the songs that has guitar being played as the main instrument like Body Shop and HeartBreak City and the songs that definitely spoke to her personality like Unapologetic **** and **** I’m Madonna. I also loved how Madonna is being retrospective about her earlier career by sampling the bridge of Vogue onto Holy Water and Madonna recalling the days of her career youth on Veni Vidi Vici. This is probably the best lyrical effort from Madonna since Confessions on a Dancefloor.

Production wise, there are some reviews I have read that it’s overproduced which I disagree. As much as I like her previous record MDNA, that record is definitely overproduced with tons of dance tracks. Rebel Heart has a fresh electronic dance sound that I really liked and it’s refreshing to hear. I also like how simple Madonna wanted to make by making some of the songs a bit more acoustic than her usual ones.

One thing I didn’t like about this record were the underwhelming collaborations. Chance The Rapper’s rap verse feels so out of place on Iconic which is an otherwise a great song from the Queen of Pop. Nicki Minaj’s rap verse on **** I’m Madonna is great and Nicki Minaj’s presence is needed for that kind of song but that’s not saying much because Nas has a much more longer career than Minaj and Nas’ rap verse on Veni Vidi Vici feels a bit lacking from a rap veteran and also because Minaj’s previous collaboration with Madonna from MDNA sounds much better.

The regular deluxe edition tracks starting from Best Night to the titular song Rebel Heart were really nice to listen and makes Rebel Heart a complete record. However, the super deluxe edition tracks starting from Beautiful Scars to Graffiti Heart, not so much for me but I am sure other Madonna fans would appreciate the tracks more than I do.

Although Madonna will probably never top off her Confessions era, I do agree that Rebel Heart is her best effort yet since Confessions on a Dancefloor in terms of lyrical style. It’s nice to hear some new Madonna songs again.

While the album itself seems like it should have been split into two separate albums as it goes from dance to ballad all to frequently, it is an amazing piece of art. Neverthless, this record has a problem: it's split down the middle. Seriously, it seems like the first half was written by Kiesza and the second half by Taylor Swift, so if the album starts with minimal-electro based ballads and pop tracks, then it gets lost in an endless crop circle made of almost tasteless countryish songs.
It's pretty obvious 'Living For Love' was chosen as the lead single, since it's the only track which has a 100% efficient pop flavor, with its musical composition and dance spirit similar to other female hits like 'Break Free' or 'Applause'. Without 'Living For Loveì and others excellent songs like 'Ghosttown', 'Devil Pray' and 'Aviciicted' (ops! I mean 'Addicted') Rebel Heart would've been a mediocre album, which still doesn't take any particular risk (except for the literally whining bonus track 'Autotune Baby') and we know Madonna loves taking risks so I don't know if maybe some crazy fans could be disappointed about that.
    Featured artists? USELESS.

Buy Rebel Heart if you enjoy warm music (Ghosttown is really beautiful) but if you were expecting a hot club album, don't buy it! It's not like MDNA!

It is a really diverse set with lots of creative production, some instant classic melodies, and a collection of beautiful and thought provoking lyrics. What stands out the most here though is her vocals, which are different in each track and complement the songs beautifully. Bravo

I've been a Madonna fan since the release of her first single, "Everybody" and no-one has had quite as much as an impact on pop/dance music or pop culture like she has. This album could be an amalgamation of all the work she has done throughout the decades, "Unapologetic **** is a modern day "Why's It So Hard", "Living For Love" is a throwback to her dance music roots and very reminiscent of "Holiday". She shows much vulnerability is "Heartbreak City" and "Joan of Arc". "Ghosttown" is post-apocalyptic love song and "Devil Pray" is pure genius. Madonna. Madonna has possibly created her best record since 'Ray of Light' - this is difinitely a welcome return to what Madonna does best and that is creating music that is insightful, thought-provoking and innovative. Uno de los mejores y mas completos trabajos de la ya (larga) carrera de Madonna. Temas bien construidos, buenas letras, variedad, consigue que los escuches disfrutando todas las canciones. Baladas (Heartbreak city, Ghosttown, Inside out), realmente magistrales, dance (Living for love, iconic) por citar solo algunas.
    Un disco imprescindible.

My other complaint is how terrible the song S.E.X. is, having heard some of the demos, I'm a little upset she chose this over other songs. those are the only 2 reason this album doesn't get a perfect review. and in closing do yourself a favor and buy the super Deluxe with the 5 extra songs. They are nearly perfect songs and complete the experience of Rebel Heart. Expand

Rebel Heart is a perfect title for this album. On the one hand there's the "heart," the Madonna that sings about love, relationships, and self-reflection, while on the other hand there's the "rebel," the Madonna that sings about drugs, partying, and sex. Musically, this album is far more interesting than anything on MDNA. She definitely made a good decision with producers this time around. That being said, WTF is she thinking making such a long album? 23 songs on the Super Deluxe Edition, are you kidding me?? Maybe she's just being generous, but I would probably give this album a 9 or a 10 if she whittled it down to the best 12 or so and stuck with that. I'll admit, most of the songs are at least tolerable, but at this stage of her career Madonna should realize that there's a bunch of music out there that's at least tolerable. If she wants to stay relevant, she should really be pickier about what she's putting out there.

The initial leak was hugely destructive I think, and perhaps lead her to change some things simply for the sake of new material over the leaks. That is truly unfortunate that a criminal act should lead to a somewhat weaker album. The lyrics and melodies are top-notch for the most part and are only let down by weak production here and there. The "heart" songs are consistently great, while some of the "rebel" tracks are weaker and don't add much to the overall album. Considering the number of producers, there is still a unifying sound to the album and it doesn't sound dated, nor reaching to be too current; I think it will age well. All and all, it's a terrific album that won't get the credit it deserves because it's Madonna and it's now trendy to hate on her. Expand

Living for Love. Pirmais albuma singls, kuru izpildod 2015. gada Britawards Madonna graciozi nomaucās. Principā, dziesma labi iederētos Medžas 2005. gada eklektiskajā popmūzikas albumā “Confessions on the dance floor”. Dziesmu vokāli papildina pagājušā gada deju hita “Ready for your love” izpildītājs MNEK, savukārt, muzikāli dziesmu bagātina Ališas Kīzas klavierspēle. Taču šeit gan jāpiemin, ka manuprāt, pirmā popmūzikas dziesma ar līdzīgu elementu bija 2011. gada Britnijas Spīrsas iedziedātā “Till the world ends”. Kopumā dziesma laba, bet, manuprāt, ne labākais brīdis albumā, taču iesākumam piemērota.

Devil Pray. Dziesma, ko īsumā varētu raksturot kā “kabala vidusskolai”. Madonna vienmēr ir iesaistījusi savus reliģiskos uzskatus mūzikā, visizteiktāk un detalizētāk 1998. gada “Ray of ligth” jeb Madonnas fanu vecajā derībā un jau pieminētajā “Confessions on the dance floor”, kas būtu jaunā derība. “And we can do drugs; and we can smoke weed; and we can drink whiskey (..), and we can sniff glue; and we can do E; and we can drop acid.. Forever been lost with no way home”.

As though the 6 early tracks from 2014 weren't enough, Madonna's 24-song and 13th LP is a hit amongst cool moms and their children. Opened by "Living for Love", Ciccone knows how to open an album with a strong track. The drug-boasting "Devil Pray" is a bit repetitive and the oddest track from the bunch, but it may score high with the teenagers who have the munchies. "Ghosttown" is a wonderfully written ballad with slight auto-tune, but enough spice to keep things interesting. "Unapologetic B****" is the expected track from the album, but track 5, "Illuminati", is the song no one expected. The aforementioned track is a catchy, creative, and cool–something that you don't hear everyday. "B**** I'm Madonna" is the sorta sequel to 2012's "Give Me All Your Luvin'", but rapper Nicki Minaj comes in to save the day with a smart and snappy hook. "Hold Tight" is an interesting track, solely produced by Madonna herself. "Joan of Arc" is a tad boring with lyrics that sound like she doesn't know what she's talking about. The Mike Tyson-pitched "Iconic" is highly unique and features another rap hook from Chance the Rapper. "HeartBreakCity" is the step-sister of "Ghosttown": sad and heartbreaking, but with more compelling and believing lyrics. "Body Shop"'s whispered vocals and unclear lyrics are a bit 'been there, done that', but it's not all that bad. "Holy Water" is a parent's worst nightmare wrapped in a shiny 4 minute song, but honestly, it's catchy and quite brilliant. "Inside Out" is a mesmerizing track with yells and whispers, the better "Body Shop". Lastly, the album's closer, "Wash All Over Me", is the best ballad on the album, with excellent production and tear-jerker lyrics. Deluxe tracks "Best Night" and "Veni Vidi Vici" aren't half bad, "S.E.X." is a kinky and playful song about the physical activity, "Messiah" is the final ballad on the album–another good one, while the titular closer is surprisingly cheerful and empowering.

Overall, Rebel Heart is the compelling comeback from 2012's underwhelming MDNA. "Living for Love" and "Wash All Over Me" are strikingly different, but in a good, good way. "Joan of Arc" and "Body Shop" are a bit boring, but alongside the rest of the album, the overall product is quite good.

    Greats:
    - "Living for Love"
    - "Wash All Over Me"

    Nadirs:
    - "Joan of Arc"
    - "Body Shop"

    Overall Rating: 9/10

Her latest album, Rebel Heart, fuses a lot of genres but it is a pop album. I own the Super Deluxe edition which features additional songs that are not included on the regular or deluxe versions.
One thing about Madonna's style, especially since 2000 is her fusion of rock, pop, trance, hip hop, and R&B. Rebel Heart is no exception to this. I think this album of hers is her best release

Conceptually, Madonna describes this album as a two-in-one. The name Rebel Heart implies two sides to her persona: the Rebellious Madonna, and the Heartfelt sensitive Madonna. Musically, this album was created with a large number of producers, something Madonna has never done before on an album. Typically, Madonna works with one or two producers per album. The wide range of producers on Rebel Heart created songs that fuse multiple genres together:
Rock n Roll fused with Dance/Pop: The songs that have a guitar-based instrument on which the rest of the EDM and Madonna's lyrics are built, include Addicted, Rebel Heart, Joan Of Arc, Borrowed Time, Grafiti Heart, Devil Pray, Ghosttown, and Body Shop (which uses the Indian Sari instrument). Each of these songs start with the guitar hook. Some have acoustic guitar, and others, like Addicted, have the electric guitar as the central instrument. The producers fuse EDM beats on top of the guitar hooks, and in combination with Madonna's voice creates a rich blended listening experience.

These songs fuse piano bars reminiscent of the days of the Blues, with dance, pop, or R&B: HeartBreakCity, Messiah, Wash All Over Me. These songs are melancholy in nature, sort of like Madonna's version of the Blues, but fused with moderate paced pop drum beats, synthetics, and rich dramatic vocals. These songs produce a different feel from her guitar based tracks.
Her first single from the album, Living for Love, fuses the Gospel genre with pop and dance. It starts out with classic Madonna-esque pop sounds reminiscent of her 80s and 90s era. The track does include a choir of people singing the chorus in the background.

Her song, Unapologetic **** fuses a Reggae beat and Hip Hop. The base of the song is in Reggae style, with the Hip Hop beats and sounds added over it. The pace of the song is that of the Reggae style, moderate, not fast.

Her remaining tracks that I did not name, particularly **** I'm Madonna, Veni Vidi Vici, Iconic, and S.E.X. are very much Hip Hop and R&B infused tracks. She either raps on these tracks or sings and features guest rappers like Nicki Minaj and Nas.

In terms of Musicology, Madonna's Rebel Heart (Super Deluxe) edition is an excellent album for study because she successfully fuses multiple genres: Rock, Blues, Gospel, Pop, Dance, Hip Hop, R&B, Piano jazz. Additionally, the lyrics to these tracks are all written or co-written by Madonna, and her prowess to write powerful lyrics that captures her essence as a persona is as strong today as it was when she first hit the scene in 1981.

Madonna delivered one of the best albums of her career. Considering the incredible length of this album (especially the super deluxe edition), you wouldn't expect it to be THIS good! Although it is. Madonna is not over yet, this album has proved she still has a lot fighting spirit and artistry left in her. I love this album!

But the album could have been one of the best of Madonna if she had retained the material of her demo versions, especially in "Wash All Over Me" and "Beautiful Scars".

Here's a track by track review of the standard edition.

The album opens with a powerful dance anthem "Living For Love". After the heartache (breakup), Madonna feels empowered and there's no place for sadness or regrets. She says "I can forgive but I'll never forget".
The 2nd track - "Devil Pray" is easily the best track on the album. It's the best song Madonna has written in years. "Ghosttown" is another gem in the album where Madonna sings her heart out, says - "Tell me how we got this far/every man for himself/everything's gone to hell"
"Unapologetic **** is a ****y song which reflects the unapologetic nature of her madjesty, the Queen of Pop, MADONNA.
In the Kanye West assisted song "Illuminati", Madonna says - "It's like everybody in the praty shinning like illuminati" She refers a list of names here including - Beyonce, Jay Z, Queen of Britain, Gaga, Bill Gates and many others.
With **** I'm Madonna, she states that she's Madonna, "Who do you think you are?". You can't match her forte.
"Hold Tight" is a love song about holding hands in tough times.
In "Body Shop"she compares herself to a car and promises her lover "I would ride to the ends of the earth for you...I would ride through the dark of the night with you"
With "Iconic" she brings Mike Tyson in the Rebel Heart project and declares that if you "want to be a superstar" then understand her self made concept - "I can, Icon; 2 letters apart"
In my favourite track "Holy Water" she says **** get off my pole...Kiss it better/make it wetter/Don't it taste like Holy Water?"
"Inside Out" is a sex oriented song which finds Madonna singing her sex fantasies.
"Messiah", "HeartBreakCity", "Joan of Arc", "Wash All Over Me" are her vulnerable sides where she gives stunning vocal performance, Avicii flavoured beats and piano; and the orchestral piece. She closes the album saying "If this is the end then let it come/let rain/rain all over me...let it flow"

Jewel of the album - "Devil Pray"

More than 30 years into her career and Madonna still continues to impress me and make quality music. This is one of Madonna's best albums. Some highlights of the album are Heartbreak City, Ghost town, and Iconic

Rebel Heart is one of the best Madonna's albums in this century. It has the soul of Madonna; in this album she explore the both sides of her personality, the romantic and fragile woman, and the controversial and sexual **** but the mix is a perfect way to remember why Madonna is still the queen.

After 5 years I know to have a regret, GOD!
This is s a very good album, filtration with bad promotion and ageism was the conflict, but I have good rhythms, not a good coherence after all, but good vibes for 2015.

Rebel Heart, like its creator, pushes through the pain and, more often than not, lands solidly and with great grace on its feet. Rebel Heart has its fair share of those head-scratchers.... [But] Rebel Heart is a step back in the right direction.

Rebel Heart leans too steeply into too many trends at once, making it a scattered affair that flashes between drudgery and brilliance.

Rebel Heart is the first Madonna album for a while that's at least as much for listeners as it is for dancers. Sometimes this shines too hard a light on what she has to say. [Apr 2015, p.88]
