    ‘Zombie’ has all the swagger and pep of his previous collaborator The Weeknd, while the tempered nature of ‘Cameo’ and ‘Renegade’ allow traditional pop songwriting to coexist with bolshy, bone-crunching settings. These fleeting moments are by far ‘Reborn’s most satisfying, and offer proof that there’s plenty more creative road for Kavinsky to bomb it down in years to come.

    Vincent Belorgey’s obsession with buffed-up synths and corny lyrics earnestly sung (“Reborn” by Romuald, “Renegade” by Cautious Clay) does pay off, but the air-tight production and endless cascade of saccharine arpeggios – plus a lovesick Sébastien Tellier pining on “Goodbye” – lays on thick the sentimental shtick.     Sounds more like B-sides to the original Outrun which is bit ironic considering its called Reborn.     I can't believe how much I like this album. I heard some initial complaints that it was a bit slower and less loud than Outrun. So I expectedI can't believe how much I like this album. I heard some initial complaints that it was a bit slower and less loud than Outrun. So I expected a little bit of a letdown. But, it is so many years later since the first album and this sound and vibe just feel appropriate. The genre Kavinsky accidentally created, Synthwave, has been a little stagnant so growth and a little change in direction are necessary. Still, a perfect late-night driving album even if you won't crash your Teterosa with Reborn like you would with Outrun. God, I hope he makes another album!… Full Review »
