This onslaught of concepts and sonic rushes drives Redemption right along, carrying the listener through Richard’s vast and captivating imagination. Though she tends to repeat the styles of her earlier works, Richard still sounds like nobody else in the game, and for that Redemption stands apart.

Put simply, Redemption is an impressively ambitious record, and its to Richard’s credit that she pulls it off as a cohesive piece of work.

The integrity of Richard's voice provides the through line, which is often caught in ghostly tangles of itself or locking into prismatic harmonies, similar to how Prince or D’Angelo treated their voices.

Yet another artful and modern amalgamation of machine soul and left-field pop, Redemption is similar to the earlier parts of the trilogy in that it gives the listener a sense of being swept up, though there's little in the way of fantasy or escape here.

Richard aims for an experimental vibe that has already been coopted by the mainstream pop and EDM, but Redemption nonetheless by revelling in triumphant themes of love, life and sexual identity--and does so in a way that's delightfully thoughtful and honest

Dense, detailed and idiosyncratic, Redemption doesn’t slot in neatly next to the tropical beats and minimal pop hits that are currently dominating the charts. But there will always be a place for music as rich as this that dares to be a little different.

A few songs fail to blossom beyond an initial intriguing burst of color. But the album's ambitions reward long-haul, continuous listening.

It’s an arc that she manages to complete with her conceptual solo trilogy, and though the pop chart-minded songs devalue the album’s more adventurous pursuits, Richard is still devoted to push her art in new, unexplored directions.

It’s an ambitious and sprawling work that tackles some big topics, but it’s not fit to hold a candle to the likes of ‘Lemonade’, ‘Blonde’ and ‘A Seat At The Table’, all of which have furthered the cause of confessional R&B this year, and have done so while being resolutely down-tempo.

Overall, this is a satisfying and suitably upbeat conclusion to her Red Heart trilogy. As third acts go it ties things up nicely.

Dawn's Auto-Tuned vocals push it into Major Lazer territory. Yet the best moments are where restraint wins out. [Jan 2017, p.102]

Many of these songs begin promisingly before losing momentum and settling into turgid grooves. Rather than serving as a platform for D∆WN and Machinedrum to hybridize and expand the pop form, Redemption offers ornate, glittering garments, which constrict as they envelop.

It's incredible how she, without a label, can offer a body of work with such quality. I can't stop listening and if you have Goldenheart and Blackheart it's amazing how the three album are different but connected at the same time. Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. after the absolutely brilliant Goldenheart and the occasionally lethargic yet beautiful Blackheart, Dawn brings us her fiercest effort yet. with the dancefloor sensibilities of her Armor On EP, the lush and complex instrumentations of Goldenheart, and the depth of Blackheart, Redemption is a complete winner. this year's Infrared EP was just a taste of what was to come in this fantastical closer of this trilogy. favorites for me are: the unbelievably funky psych-art pop masterwork which is LA (which includes the most triumphant by Trombone Shorty), the Prince referencing art rock heavy jam Hey Nikki, and the powerful house track Love Under Lights (which continues where Gleaux left off!!!!!)
I highly recommend this album to everyone
