  • Summary: The second album for the Los Angeles indie-rock duo was produced with Michael Patterson and Nic Jodoin.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 2 out of 10
  2. Negative: 0 out of 10
  1. Remind Me Where the Light Is ultimately concludes as the luminous successor to "Trading Twilight for Daylight"--bright where that album was nocturnal, open-armed where "Twilight" was introspective, and altogether illustrative of Great Northern's growth as songwriters and performers.
  2. It feels a lot longer than it is, and that's a bad thing. [May 2009, p.115]
  3. 60
Great Northern may not have learned the art of being musically economical, but perhaps their greatest strength lies in their maximalist tendencies.
  4. 60
Unfortunately, the newfound confidence doesn't extend to lyrics rife with nonspecific, mixed-metaphorical angst that smacks of the overwrought youth demo they've otherwise outgrown.

I've been a big fan of Metacritic for the past three years and never felt compelled enough to write a review until now. Maybe it because I am huge fan of their first album and EP, but I couldn't disagree more with the direction of these poor reviews. If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it. Will it change your life? No. But they're a great band that continues to put out consistent, beautiful music. Expand

Boring....heard this all before...money and jealousy (from the scary piano playing lady singer) got to their heads...and based on all the major music magazine reviews....this album sucks! Expand
